Medienda Meet Up

For the past two years I wasn’t active in music I was focusing more on my acting career. Its had its ups and downs but its something I really enjoy doing and I’ve had a lot of fun experiences and have met some pretty great people through that venture.

As I switched my focus back onto the music this year I got an invite to join the Filipinx Actors Barkada. I’ve known about them for a good while since the Filipino acting community is relatively small. Decided to take them up on their invitation and have been getting familiar with everyone through the Discord server and online classes that they hold.

So this past 4/20 One Down Media (a large Filipino media outlet) threw a mixer featuring different Filipino Media and Entertainment groups. Full list included TWO UP, Filipinx In Entertainment (FXE), Filipinx TV/Film/Media Editors, and of course the Filipinx Actors Barkada. It was a potluck so I brought some Hopia (shoutout to my boy Jay from Hopia Like It in Chatsworth, CA)

Food was great, people were great, and I finally got to meet members of the Barkada in real life

During the early part of my journey I really neglected the Filipino community. It wasn’t because I was ashamed or anything like that. It was just that I didn’t want to be put into the niche of a “asian rapper” and honestly I didn’t make it a huge part of my identity. I just wanted the skills to speak for themselves.

Now as I’ve grown older I really know the importance of community and no matter what I will be viewed by my ethnicity. I make it a big part of my mission to help push Filipino people and stories out for the world to see. Thats why I think its important that no matter what we feel about things like “Easter Sunday” we show up to support because its the only way we can make progress.

So thank you One Down for the invite, my Barkada family, and everyone for such a great event. I can’t wait to see you all again soon.
